Did you know that not until 1999, real estate agents generally worked for home sellers.  Agents would assist sellers in finding qualified buyers for their property. Home buyers were considered “customers.”  The agent was obligated to find thebest dealfor the seller.  As the industry progressed, more home buyers wanted a real estate agent working for them, thus buyer representation became the norm.

When you meet with a real estate agent and discuss forming a business relationship, you need to be aware of the types of relationships that exist. 

There are three kinds of agency relationships in Maryland: 

Seller Agency 

Listing Agent represents the seller by written agreement 

Buyer Agency

Buyer Agent represents the buyer by written agreement

Dual Agency

The listing agent and buyer agent 

work for the same Broker

But wait, there's more!  

There are even Subagents and Intra-Company Agents.
